The Colorguard is the section of the band that works with flags, rifles, and sabers. Guard members march with the band and perform in the field shows. During the winter season, they compete as a unit, known as Winterguard, at various events in the Northern California Band Association (NCBA) circuit. Ms. Corey Cruz is Color Guard Instructor at Laguna Creek High School. She started twirling baton at age 6 and was a member of the Concord Blue Devils from 1972-1984. She was captain of the World Champion Baton team, "Devil's Advocate" who represented the U.S. in Japan , Italy and Canada bringing home Gold medals in 1983 and 1984. She had the pleasure of being part of the Blue Devil staff, and the Sydication Twirl Club staff. In the 90's she moved from California to Oregon where she taught colorguard for Sprague High School , and baton and colorguard for the Argonauts youth band. That's when she fell in love with Winterguard! In 2002 they moved to Texas where she taught colorguard at MacArthur High School for five amazing years. It's true that everything is bigger in Texas ! Band, colorguard, and football were so exciting, It will always be a part of her and she will forever miss Texas! When they moved "back home", Laguna Creek was fortunate enough to hire Corey in 2007, and we have watched the colorguard progress to an advanced level in that short amount of time! She has been so proud of their accomplishments so far, and she have great expectations for the colorguard this year. They have already been working very hard all summer!
